Stretch film sourcing checklist for Vietnam buyers

Thickness, width, roll weight, blown vs cast — the eight-line brief a Vietnamese mill needs for a sharp quote.

Stretch film sourcing checklist for Vietnam buyers

Vietnam exports stretch film at consistently competitive prices, but the price gap between mills closes fast once spec is locked down. Here is the eight-line brief that gets you a like-for-like quote. 1. Thickness. Industry common values are 12, 17, 20, 23 micron. State micron, not gauge. 2. Width. 500 mm is standard pallet wrap width. 250 mm and 100 mm are available for hand-wrap bundling. 3. Roll weight or length. Either net kg per roll (typical 2.0, 2.3, 2.5 kg net) or linear metres. Specify "net" vs "gross" — gross includes core. 4. Core type. Cardboard 50 mm ID or extended cardboard handle for hand-wrap. 5. Blown vs cast. Cast film is clearer, quieter to apply, lower stretch. Blown film has higher puncture resistance and load retention. Match to your application. 6. Hand-wrap vs machine-wrap. Machine rolls run 17–23 micron, weight 15–17 kg, width 500 mm. Hand rolls are lighter (2–2.5 kg). State pre-stretch ratio if machine-wrap. 7. Colour. Clear standard. Black, blue, opaque, UV-stabilised available — minimum order quantities apply. 8. Monthly quantity and destination port. Mills price differently for 1×40HQ trial vs ongoing 5×40HQ/month. Be honest about projected volume. Vietnamese cast film mills are concentrated around Ho Chi Minh City and Long An. Lead time on a confirmed order is 14–21 days production + 25–30 days transit to EU/US. ISO 9001 is standard; request copy at LOI. For food-contact applications (rare in stretch film but does happen), confirm migration testing certificate before bulk order.
